The Cyber Intelligence and Security Aid Bureau (CISAB) was born out of a pressing need during a period of great uncertainty. In 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic triggered unprecedented lockdowns, a disturbing surge in cybercrime and other forms of criminal activity began to pester and confront Ghana, along with the rest of the world. Even our co-founders—professionals with strong backgrounds in internet safety and security—fell victim to these crimes. One co-founder experienced a romance scam, while another narrowly avoided being defrauded during an online transaction. This eye-opening experience brought about a critical realisation: if individuals well-versed in security practices could be vulnerable, how much more at risk was the general public, especially the many Ghanaians with limited or no understanding of security issues?
